Alwyn Smit & Associates is a law firm committed to providing quality service in various areas of litigation, such as debt collection, evictions, ante-nuptial contracts, liquor licenses, correspondence assistance and much more.

Our offices are situated at 5 Church Street, in the picturesque town of Wellington in the heart of the Boland.

Alwyn Smit & Associates offer legal solutions in both civil and criminal proceedings and specialise in the following areas:

Debt Collection / Levy Collection

We offer a cost effective approach in collecting monies owed to you by your debtors, ensuring that you take on least of the financial risk. We handle everything from the initial Letter of Demand, correspondence with the debtor and, if need be, instituting legal action for recovery of your money.

Liquor Licence

We are able to assist you in obtaining your liquor license and to ensure that your establishment is licenced according to regulation. We are also able to assist with any legal disputes, fines or queries received from the Liquor Authorities.

General Litigation

We are able to represent you in any civil action you wish to institute or which has been instituted against you in the High Court, Regional Court or Magistrates Court. We make use of experienced correspondent attorneys in areas which fall outside of our jurisdictional range and always ensure that your legal dispute is dealt with as priority.

Correspondent Attorney

We offer our services to act as a correspondent attorney to any legal firm which falls outside the jurisdictional area of the Paarl or Wellington Courts.

Ante-Nuptial Contracts

Getting married? Congratulations! Allow us to assist you in drafting and registering your ante-nuptial contract to ensure that your and your spouse’s assets are protected in the event of the unforeseen.

Evictions

We specialise in all applications (P.I.E. and E.S.T.A.) to have unlawful occupants evicted from your premises, and will ensure that you remain on the right side of the law during the entire process.

Conveyancing

Our experienced conveyancers are standing by to assist you with your next property purchase and transfer.

Divorce

We offer our assistance to help you navigate the legal process in the event of divorce, whether contested or uncontested.

Our Team

Alwyn Johannes Smit - Director at Alwyn Smit & Associates

Known by his friends and colleagues in the industry as Johan Smit, Mr. Smit was admitted as an attorney in 2020 and finished his articles at De Villiers & Schreve Attorneys under the experienced eye of his father, Mr. Ivan De Villiers, owner of De Villiers & Schreve Attorneys. Mr. Smit studied law through the University of South Africa and obtained his LLB while living and working abroad. He has managed to build an impressive portfolio of well-established clients and made the decision to open his own practice during October 2022. Alwyn Smit & Associates is a the newest firm in our lovely surrounds and Mr. Smit’s vision for the firm is to be operating as one of the top three firms in the Boland, Western Cape area by 2028.

Lynette Vermeulen - Senior Legal Secretary at Alwyn Smit & Associates

Lynette Smit entered the legal industry in 2011 as a collections secretary and worked her way up to junior legal secretary within a year. She has specialised in general litigation for the better part of 12 years and has experience in everything from foreclosures, debt collection (including levies) and evictions. Mrs. Smit currently assists Mr. Smit as his right hand in all legal matters and also handles the firm’s administrative duties.
